Women's Running Group

Second Wind has two 8 week Women's Running Groups for those new to running, returning after a break from running or just seeking the camaraderie of a group. The goal of these balanced, progressive sessions is to develop a basic running program for women who are newer to running in order to prepare participants to complete a 5K race and include more experienced women as mentors to lead pace groups and help answer questions about running.
 
Our Fall program begins in early August and ends with the Women’s Fitness 5K at Crystal Lake Park. Group meetings are held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesdays at Meadowbrook Park in Urbana at the Race Street parking lot (the time will shift to 5:30pm during the final three weeks). There are optional weekend runs hosted by our program mentors at parks around the area.
 
Our Spring program begins in late February and ends with the Illinois Marathon 5K. Group meetings are held at 3:00 p.m. on Sundays at Meadowbrook Park in Urbana at the Race Street parking lot. The optional runs are held on Tuesdays at 6pm concurrently with the SWRC Fun Runs at Meadowbrook Park's Windsor parking lot.
 
Both 8-week programs include group runs with experienced runners on hand to provide guidance and instruction for individual training. Guest speakers will address topics such as stretching and running form, and all participants will receive a training/information packet and a performance shirt. Membership in Second Wind Running Club is required as part of the program fee. Each session is 30-45 minutes.
 
Participants should be able to walk briskly for 15-20 minutes 3-4 times per week before enrolling in this program. For women who can comfortably run, or run/walk, a 5K, this may be used as a stepping stone to a 10K.
 
The cost of $40 includes individual membership in Second Wind Running Club, training plan, and a technical shirt. Race registration for the target 5Ks are not included in the cost and you do not have to run the 5K to be part of the program. Second Wind members who wish to join will have the $20 membership fee portion of the cost waived.
 
Registration for the program closes the day before the first group run or when registration reaches 40 participants. No refunds. Payment is by debit/credit card only.
