Spring Women's Program
New for 2018 - run the Kirby Derby!
Expanding on our extremely popular Fall Women's Running Group, we are now offering a Spring Program. This 8 week program is for those new to running, but is also appropriate for women who are already running and want to continue to participate for any reason.
We will begin Tuesday, March 20 and end in mid May with the Kirby Derby 5k on May 12. Just like our Fall Program, group meetings are held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesdays at Meadowbrook Park in Urbana at the Race Street parking lot. The optional weekly runs will be scheduled .
The goal of these balanced, progressive sessions is to develop a basic running program in order to prepare participants to complete a 5K race (3.1 miles). These would also work as a shorter run day for women training for a 10K race. This is not intended for women who are looking to competitively race a 5K. You may get faster as a result, but we will focus on running for enjoyment, rather than speed.
The 8-week program includes group runs with experienced runners on hand to provide guidance and instruction for individual training. Guest speakers will address topics such as stretching and running form, and all new participants will receive training/information packets, a performance shirt, and membership in Second Wind Running Club. Each session is 30-45 minutes. Participants should be able to walk briskly for 15-20 minutes 3-4 times per week before enrolling in this program.
The cost of $40 includes individual membership in Second Wind Running Club, training plan, and a technical shirt. Race registration is not included in the cost; you do not have to run the 5K to be part of the program. Registration for the program closes March 27, 2018 or when registration reaches 40 participants. No refunds. Payment is by debit/credit card only.
