Indianapolis Monumental Marathon / Half-Marathon Training Program
Continuing our tradition, we will offer a summer marathon training program targeting the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon (Monumental) weekend. Race distances that weekend include the marathon, half-marathon, 5k, and a kids run for ages 4-10. Our long runs are for those who want to train for the marathon or half-marathon races.
For those of you who are newer club members here is some background information. Because so many members run one of the Monumental races we have scheduled our summer/fall long runs to coincide with this event. It’s a great race as anyone who has run it will tell you. We have probably had more than forty members run at Monumental each of the last few years. Afterwards we gather at a restaurant downtown for some post-race food, drinks and time to share our race stories.
Because of our relationship Monumental is offering Second Wind members a 10% discount off your registration fee for those who have not registered yet. When registering use code SECONDWINDVIP at checkout. (Monumental and Second Wind will be verifying membership.) The Saturday training runs will be every other Saturday morning at 7 a.m. beginning July 23. The club will provide water and Gatorade at the start/finish of each run. Links to each course will be available online.
Although there will not be pace groups there will be people running at different paces and you can work out who to run with at the beginning of each run. Also, you can of course use the long runs as training for any event that you are interested in. There is no requirement to run Monumental. Saturday, September 17 – 18-20 miles / 10 miles – Hessel Park – Elm Street Pavilion
Saturday, October 1 – 20 miles / 10 miles – TBD or Hessel Park – Elm Street Pavilion
